NJTaxWatch.com has compiled data for every New Jersey town and what the proposed budget reductions and takebacks mean for your wallet. Governor Christie has reneged on his commitment of property tax relief for New Jersey taxpayers and instead is about to give New Jersey taxpayers their biggest increase in property taxes ever.
Choose your town below and you will find takebacks and budget reductions broken down by town. The budget reductions are from Governor Christie's March 16th budget address which proposes drastic cuts in state aid for your school district and town for Fiscal year 2010-2011. The severity of the proposed cuts are a near guarantee that your property taxes will need to be raised to make up all or part of the difference. Meanwhile, those making $1,000,000 and above are receiving a huge income tax cut. The takebacks are monies that are being cut from the current fiscal year from school districts (500 of them) who have any surplus over 2% of their budget. Under state law, that excess surplus was supposed to go to reducing your property taxes. Instead the money taken back will help fund a huge income tax cut for those that make $1,000,000 and above.
